Avian Orthopedics
This 4-hour lab will cover an overview of wild avian orthopedics with both a lecture portion and hands on practice on cadavers. Surgical fixation and external coaptation techniques will be covered for the thoracic and pelvic limb as well as considerations for different taxonomic groups and body sizes. The primary focus will be on ESF-IM pin tie in fixators or an IM pin and wrap/splint combination in very small birds. There will be a variety of external coaptation, pinning, and fixation bar materials available to experiment with in different bones and taxonomic groups. Pre and post-op considerations for the wild avian orthopedic patient will also be covered.
This lab is supported by IMEX | A Movora Brand in conjunction with the Association of Avian Veterinarians.
